Now This News is a new startup founded by Huffington Post co-founder Ken Lerer and former CEO Eric Hippeau and is a new social news video site. Now This News is all about making news more fun and interesting for the YouTube-watching crowd.

Now This News is serious about news, hiring former CNN exec Eason Jordan, former ABC News Digital executive producer Ed O’Keef, and former Washington Post executive director of digital news Katharine Zaleski.

Content with Now This News is two-way – users can generate and submit their own videos along with contributing to stories and engaging in discussions through the Now This News commenting system.

Salon.com has been an industry leader since the dawn of the Internet for online breaking news, politics, culture, technology, and entertainment.

Salon has over 10 million monthly unique visitors and currently ranks in the top 400 most visited sites for US web users and in the top 1300 most visited sites for worldwide Internet users, although Salon did recently reach a high of 800th worldwide.

The American Journalism Review called Salon the Internet’s “preeminent independent venue for journalism.” Additionally, Salon has received numerous awards over the years since its inception.

The Huffington Post was founded by Arianna Huffington, Kenneth Lerer, and Jonah Peretti in May 2005. Since its founding, it’s become a major source of news and commentary for the US public, ranking 20th most popular website in the USA and 80th most popular website worldwide according to Alexa.com.

The Huffington Post features over 3,000 bloggers including Carole Bayer Sager, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Michael Moore, Madonna, Alec Baldwin, Norman Mailer, John Cusack, Nora Ephron, Madeleine Albright, Robert Redford, Neil Young, Rahm Emanuel, Albert Brooks, Mia Farrow, Edward Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ryan Reynolds, Donna Karan, Donatella Versace, Bill Maher, Larry Gelbart, and Stephen Covey.

In February 2011, AOL announced its intention to acquire The Huffington Post with Arianna Huffington to become the president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group, which includes The Huffington Post and existing AOL properties Engadget, TechCrunch, Moviefone, MapQuest, Black Voices, PopEater, AOL Music, AOL Latino, AutoBlog, Patch, and StyleList. The Huffington Post was acquired in March 2011 by AOL for US$315 million.

In addition to developing The Huffington Post iPad app from version 2.0 to 3.0, RookSoft also contributed to the development of The Huffington Post‘s iPhone app.

Jean-Cristoph von Oertzen (Germany) is a traditional archer (traditional being defined by him as an archer who uses simple wooden bows without stabilizers, target devices, or pulley system) who runs a blog about archery in the German language. Jean-Cristoph von Oertzen wrote a script to calculate the real, static spin values for a wooden arrow and put that calculator on his blog.

That script, along with the rest of his blog, became so popular among traditional archers that he wanted to create an iPhone application from that script. That iPhone application is called SpineCalc.
